Birmingham Gardens nsw is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, bordering the University of Newcastle 11 kilometres (7 mi) west-northwest of Newcastle’s central business district. It is part of the City of Newcastle local government area. Birmingham Gardens had a population of 2,122 in 2011.
Inspired by the English town of Birmingham, this suburb was originally owned by coal and oil companies. Nowadays, Birmingham Gardens is a mix of old and new, with retired people and Uni students making up most of the population. The suburb lies just across the A37 from the University of Newcastle.
Birmingham Gardens had a population of 2,122 in 2011, with an area of 0.7 km2 (0.3sq mi). It was first subdivided in year 1930. The area grew up as a result of the land attraction factor. It was originally named by Mr. T.M Burke after the English town of Birmigham. The town was an original property of Newcastle Wallsend Coal Company, after which it was later sold to the commonwealth Oil Refineries. It borders University of Newcastle.
