Fletcher NSW is an outer western suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located 16 kilometres (10 mi) from Newcastle’s central business district on the western edge of the City of Newcastle local government area. Fletcher had a population of 2,730 in 2011.
Situated on the outer edges of Newcastle, yet still only a few kilometres from the CBD, Fletcher is an attractive residential area which features a small shopping area and plenty of peace and quiet. It is situated a short distance from the Hunter Wetlands National Park.
It was founded in the outer region of western Newcastle, Australia along the western end of the Newcastle’s City local government area. It covers an area of 7.8km2. It is 16km drive WNW of Newcastle City. The surrounding suburbs of Fletcher include Black Hill, Wallsend, Maryland and Minmi.
It comprises of Cole supermarkets, Aldi stores that function as bakery, café, liquor store and a hair salon. The downtown historic town is also famous for its architectural features such as buildings, roads and subways. It is also home to the best private colleges in Australia.
It is for this reason that today the suburb of Fletcher is known as the principal town of Newcastle City. According to the Australia Census Bureau’s statistics, the suburb had a population of almost 2,730 at the end of 2013, therefore, making it the fourth-largest town in the metropolitan city of Newcastle.
