It measures approximately 18.7km2. It borders River Hunter to the east and Ironbark Creek to the south. The west part of the suburb is mainly comprised of floodplains and unproductive swampland. The major settlement exists along the stretch of Pacific Highway that is between the river Hunter and Main North railway line.
