In 1823 James Thomas Morisset camped in this suburb and that gave this area its first name. this suburb contains morisset public school which was opened in 1891 and it started accommodating high school classes in 1951. The area also has a catholic church which started St John Vianney School in 1962. This area is also having a railway station and Bus station services in operation.

Morisset started with humble beginnings, as a campsite for the famous Major James Thomas Morisset who was making the first overland journey from Sydney to Newcastle in 1823. It eventually started life as a sawmill town in 1887, and just continued growing. Today it is a popular residential area boasting schools and a train station.
